R Ashwin breaks Anil Kumble's remarkable record in the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test between India and Australia.

 In the first Test match against Australia, Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made history by taking his 450th wicket, the second-fastest bowler in the world, in just 89 games. The Sri Lankan superstar Muttiah Muralidaran holds the record for accomplishing the feat the quickest, doing so in in 80 games.


When he removed Australian wicket-keeper batter Alex Carey, 36-year-old Ashwin reached a significant milestone. With this victory, Ashwin overtook renowned leg-spinner Anil Kumble as the second-highest wicket-taker in Indian cricket history.

In the first inning of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy match against Australia, Ashwin excelled, taking three wickets for 42 runs. Just below Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon, who has 460 wickets in 115 appearances, he presently holds ninth place on the list of Test cricket wicket-takers. Ashwin, who has 452 wickets in 89 games, is only eight wickets behind.

Speaking of the game, Australia had a strong start in the early session before being dismissed for 177. The visitors were down to 174-8 during the tea break, but things rapidly turned around in the afternoon. Unfortunately, following the interval, they lost the final two wickets quickly.

The left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Marnus Labuschagne (49) and Steve Smith (37), who had appeared at ease in the morning session. With five wickets, Jadeja has led the Indian bowling assault while Ashwin has contributed with three. Additionally productive, Siraj and Shami have each taken one wicket.
