Usman Khawaja scored a hundred as Australia dominated the first day of the fourth Test match against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Unfortunately, the visitors' second day got off to a fairly gloomy start when Pat Cummins, the usual Test and ODI captain, lost his mother Maria overnight. After the second Test in Delhi was over, Cummins returned home to be with his unwell mother. Despite having his mother in hospice care, the skipper chose against returning when there was a one-week gap between the second and third Test.
After a protracted illness, Cummins' mother passed away in Sydney overnight. In a statement, Cricket Australia expressed their sympathy for Cummins' mother on Twitter.
