Rohit Sharma dismisses the criticism from erstwhile coach Ravi Shastri.

Rohit Sharma, the skipper of India, has responded angrily to the criticism levelled at him after his team's third Test loss to Australia by nine wickets last week in Indore.

India had a 2-0 series lead when they lost seven wickets before noon on Day 1 of the third Test at Indore due to a poor first session. After being ultimately expelled for 109, they never recovered. Their showing drew a lot of criticism, with Ravi Shastri, a former India player and coach, pointing out that the hosts had paid for being "complacent" and "over-confident." Rohit was questioned regarding his agreement with Shastri's evaluation on the eve of the fourth Test. He didn't seem particularly happy.

It really is that easy; you don't want to give up after two victories, Rohit said. It's completely ridiculous if people on the outside think we are arrogant because you want to give each of the four games your all. It is clear that none of these men, particularly the ones outside the dressing room, understand the conversation that takes place there when they complain about being overconfident and other things.

For me and every cricket player, the word "ruthless" instantly comes to mind. When a team is playing, particularly when they are touring abroad, they are advised not to allow the opposition any room to manoeuvre. When we have toured abroad, we have also encountered this."

The opponents will never permit you to take part in the contest or the tournament. Additionally, that is how we operate. In every contest, we want to perform at our best. Since Ravi himself has been in this dressing room and is aware of our playing mentality, it doesn't really matter to us if it appears overconfident or anything similar to outsiders. It's not about being overconfident; it's about being merciless."
