Just a week earlier, Ravichandran Ashwin had displaced James Anderson as the best Test bowler. However, following the most recent update to the ICC Test Bowling Rankings, the English pacer had returned to share the top spot with an Indian spinner.
In the third Test against Australia, Ashwin claimed four wickets, but his rating fell by six points, allowing Anderson to equal the seasoned spinner on a total of 859 rating points.
Despite missing the final two Tests against India, Australian captain Pat Cummins is still in third position, but his rating has dropped to 849 points.
Kagiso Rabada of South Africa, who took eight wickets in the Proteas' 87-run victory over the West Indies in the first Test at Centurion, moved up three places to fourth on the most recent list of Test bowlers and up to 807 rating points, suggesting that there may soon be another challenger.
Nathan Lyon of Australia is another notable riser inside the top 10, moving up five spots to ninth overall after his match-winning 11-wicket performance in the third Test against India.
Usman Khawaja of Australia, who bats first in a Test match, moves up two spots to ninth overall, the only change among the top 10 batters. Aiden Markram of South Africa, who bowls right-handed, and Jermaine Blackwood of the West Indies, who bats in the middle of the order, both make significant gains after strong showings in the first Test.
