Shubman Gill scores his first century in a Twenty20 match against New Zealand, breaking THIS Virat Kohli record.

Shubman Gill of India achieved new heights on Wednesday, February 1, when he finally cracked the T20I code against New Zealand in the third and final T20I at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. India was very dissatisfied with the Lucknow pitch, but the calm Ahmedabad surface more than made up for it. Hardik Pandya decided to bat after India won the toss. Ishan Kishan kept having a terrible series, but Gill was fielding every ball middlingly on the other end. Though he took his time, it was not long before he began to gather the boundaries in sixes and fours.

While wickets were falling at the other end, Gill's strokeplay remained amazing. He scored his maiden T20I tonne by finishing the 20 overs with 126 off 63 balls, which contained 12 fours and 7 sixes, respectively. The event was unintentionally distinguished by the appearance of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who was at the venue to congratulate the India U19 Women Cricketers on their recent T20 World Cup victory.

The most significant record that Gill broke was Virat Kohli's mark for the greatest individual score for India in the format. When Kohli scored 122 not out against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022, he broke the international tonnes drought. With 126 unbeaten, Gill currently holds the record for the highest T20I score by an Indian. Others include Suryakumar Yadav (117 against. England in 2022) and Rohit Sharma (118 vs. SL in 2017).Gill currently has hundreds in each of the game's three versions. Only five Indians have done so before him. Others include Kohli, Rohit, KL Rahul, and Suresh Raina.

Against New Zealand, the 23-year-old hitter has scored the most runs in ODIs (208) and T20Is (123*).
In 20 overs, India had scored 234 for 4. With New Zealand needing to score 66 runs in just 12.1 overs to win the match, Hardik took 4 wickets, while Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, and Shivam Mavi each claimed 2 wickets. The largest margin of victory in a T20I between two Full Member sides was achieved by India as they defeated NZ by 168 runs. NZ's 66 is also their third-lowest T20I total and their lowest score against India.
