Suryakumar Yadav outruns Dhoni and Raina in the second Twenty20 international as he aims for Virat Kohli's record.
Suryakumar Yadav and Washington Sundar batted brilliantly but were unable to lead India to victory as they attempted to chase down a difficult total of 177. Sundar hit his first T20I fifty off 25 balls while Suryakumar scored 47 off 35 balls.
After hitting 47 runs and surpassing the records of former middle-order batsman Suresh Raina and former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni to become India's fifth-highest run-getter in T20 Internationals, Suryakumar reached significant personal milestones.
In 44 T20I innings so far, Suryakumar has amassed 1625 runs, including three centuries and 13 fifty-plus scores. Dhoni and Raina each have run totals of 1617 and 1605.
Top of the list with 4008 runs is famous Indian hitter Virat Kohli, who is followed by Rohit Sharma with 3853 runs. Shikhar Dhawan (1759 runs) and KL Rahul (2265 runs) are in third and fourth place, respectively.
India captain Hardik Pandya stated, "No one expected this pitch would play like that, both teams were surprised, but New Zealand played better cricket," following the defeat on Friday at Ranchi's JSCA International Stadium. Compared to the old ball, the new ball was rotating more. We were surprised by the way it turned and rebounded, but until Surya and I started hitting,We believed we could succeed.
